CRUISIN’ ON MAIN STREET 2009

MANCHESTER’S MAGNIFICENT MILE OF VINTAGE VEHICLES

Manchester, CT With the economy taking center stage wouldn’t it be nice to turn back the clock to a time of simple pleasures - when Saturday nights were meant for cruising, dinner meant a stop at the local drive-in for a burger and shake and a good rock ‘n roll song on the radio could take all of your cares away? You can recapture those days on Sunday, August 2 from 11 AM to 4 PM when Cruisin’ on Main Street returns to Downtown Manchester. (Rain date, August 9.)

Cruisin’ on Main Street is a one-day cruise and show for antique and classic cars, trucks, sports cars and street rods twenty-five years old and prior. A one-mile stretch of Main Street in historic Downtown Manchester, CT closes for Cruisin’ creating a plaza-like viewing area where attendees can stroll the street and take-in the art and engineering of our automotive history.

Spectator admission is free. Show car registration opens at 8 AM. The first 1,000 show cars will receive a commemorative dash plaque and over 30 Sponsor’s Choice Trophies will be awarded. The show car donation/registration fee is $5.

While the cars are clearly the stars, Cruisin’ on Main provides a full range of activities and amenities to event attendees. Food, music, shopping and exhibits are all a part of the Cruisin’ 2009 experience. This year’s cruise will host over 25 sponsor exhibits. New sponsor, Stafford Motor Speedway, will add a new dimension to the cruise with a display of three of its race cars. Good Time Rock ‘ Roll 102.9 DRC-FM will broadcast live from Cruisin’Several new vendors have been added this year that compliment the traditional Cruisin’ vendor fare and delicious offerings of Downtown restaurants. Downtown antique dealers will open their shops to provide some “shopping therapy” for attendees.

The Official Cruisin’ 2009 T-shirt - Now In Full Color

Many who attend Cruisin’ each year look forward to taking home the latest edition of the official Cruisin’ on Main T-shirt. The 2009 T-shirt will be full color and feature three vehicles representative of different eras and styles in automotive design: a 1971 Dodge Challenger, a 1932 Ford and a 1957 Ford Ranchero. The t-shirts will sell for $15 each.

New This Year The Cruisin’ Club of Manchester Card

Cruisin’ organizers were looking for a way to stimulate community involvement and support local businesses. Cruisin’ Committee members developed the Cruisin’ Club of Manchester Card. The Club Card features valuable discounts on food, entertainment and services from 12 local businesses and can be used again and again – all year long. Cards may be purchased for a $5 donation. Cards will be sold at the Info and T-shirt Sales booths during Cruisin’. Cards will also be available for sale prior to Cruisin’ at selected locations beginning July 20th. For a list of sales locations visit www.cruisinonmainstreet.org. Proceeds from card sales help to support Cruisin’ on Main Street.

Profits from Cruisin’on Main Street benefit local charities. Cruisin’ 2009 will donate a portion of its proceeds to MARC, Inc. of Manchester and to the Downtown Manchester Special Services District for their series of free, family oriented events. A special contribution to MACC Charities is also made possible by the efforts of hardworking volunteer from MACC who handle trash management for the event.

Cruisin’ on Main Street is produced by the Downtown Manchester Special Services District and made possible by the generosity of its many sponsors. A list of Cruisin’ 2009 sponsors is attached.
