15th ANNUAL CRUISIN’ ON MAIN STREET
Manchester, CT Cruisin’ on Main Street 2015 takes place on Sunday, August 2 from 11 AM to 4 PM along Main Street in Downtown Manchester. (Rain date, August 9, August 16.) Show car registration opens at 8 AM. Show car registration is $10 and spectators are FREE.
Cruisin’ on Main Street is a one-day cruise and show for antique and classic cars, trucks, sports cars and street rods twenty-five years old and prior. A one-mile stretch of Main Street in historic Downtown Manchester, CT closes for Cruisin’ creating a plaza-like viewing area where attendees can stroll the street and take-in the art and engineering of our automotive history. Since its inception in 2001 Cruisin’ has showcased over 14,000 vintage vehicles and welcomed over 380,000 spectators.
Taylor Rental Party Plus of Manchester, a homegrown business with locations in Manchester and West Hartford, returns as the Presenting Sponsor of Cruisin’ 2015. Taylor Rental joins 31 sponsoring businesses that help make Cruisin’ possible. Sponsor exhibits will showcase information and displays featuring: the latest model cars from sponsor dealerships, automotive products, home improvement products, insurance, financial planning and health care services, educational institutions, party planning services and telecommunications.
While the cars are clearly the stars, Cruisin’ on Main Street strives to provide a full range of activities and amenities to event attendees. Food, music, sponsors exhibits and shopping enhance the experience of strolling Main St. to view a magnificent mile of vintage vehicles. The Cruisin’ Bazaar will return to the Forest Street Lot this year.
Cruisin’ 2015 offers more music and fun then ever before with 3 DJ locations, live performances by surf bands and a jazz/contemporary music duo, and dance demos.
1029 The Whale will provide classic rock music to go with the classic vehicles on display and a running commentary on Cruisin’ happenings! On Air Personalities, Chaz and AJ, will roam the event doing live cut-ins to keep listeners up to the minute on Cruisin’ happenings.
The Cruisin’ Committee added two new special attractions that will provide fun photo ops for all ages: the Bigfoot Monster Truck and the 28 foot tall Michelin Man, ”Mr. Bib”. They will be on display at the show courtesy of Tires International and BJ’s Whole Sale respectively.
Each year the Cruisin’ Committee chooses an official Cruisin’ car for the year’s show. The 2015 Cruisin’ car is an orange 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge This car appears on Cruisin’ dash plaques and on the official Cruisin’ t-shirt. The 2015 T-shirt features the GTO Judge with the iconic Deci’s Drive-In in the background. Deci’s was a favorite hangout for a generation of Manchester High School students. The T-shirts come in white ($15) and black ($20) and are sold at the event.
43 handsome etched acrylic Sponsor’s Choice Trophies will be awarded to show cars this year including Memorial Trophies honoring deceased Cruisin’ Committee Members John “Randy” Thrall and Butch Gordon.
MARC Inc. of Manchester is the major charitable beneficiary of Cruisin’ 2015. Cruisin 2014 was proud to donate over $11,000.00 to local not for profits and service groups. In 2013 the Cruisin’ on Main Street John “Randy” Thrall Scholarship was established through the Manchester Scholarship Foundation. The committee looks forward to continuing to fund this scholarship.
The Cruisin’ Committee looks forward to working with its approximately 200 volunteers to showcase both an impressive array of vintage vehicles and Manchester’s historic downtown and its businesses.
